This apple pie filling is super easy to make and will satisfy your cravings! The simple instructions to freeze the recipe makes it even easier to enjoy apple pie year round!
Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 15 minutes mins
Cool Time 10 minutes mins
- 5 medium apples
- 1/3 cup brown sugar could substitute white sugar
- 3 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp + 1 tsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
Peel, core and slice apples.
Place butter and cinnamon in large pan (I use a Dutch Oven) until melted.
Add apples, brown sugar and water and stir. Let cook for 5-10 minutes until apples start getting slightly soft.
In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and water. Mix well. Pour over apples and continue to cook until apples are soft.
Remove from heat and let cool 10-20 minutes. Place in freezer bag once cooled and stick in the freezer until you are ready to enjoy!
This recipe will fill one quart freezer bag. I often times will triple the recipe to do a few bags worth at time. Tripling the recipe still easily fits into my Dutch Oven.
I use brown sugar since it carmelizes a bit and I really love that in my apple pies. White sugar could also be used and substituted 1:1.
Depending one which apples you use, some will be juicier than others. If yours appears to be getting pretty juicy, add a little more cornstarch to thicken it up.
