Homemade Sausage Gravy
This super simple homemade sausage gravy recipe is quick and so good. Your kids will even eat it! Perfect for breakfast or any meal of the day. Just spoon over biscuits and enjoy!

This is the perfect savory meal on those cold winter days and takes less than 20 minutes! Pair with biscuits and you’ll have a perfect meal in minutes! Once you realize how fast and easy this recipe is, it will certainly become a staple!
Ingredients Needed
- Sausage – thawed. A one pound tube is needed for this recipe, but can easily be doubled. Sage flavor is super tasty. Hot has a kick and may be too much for some, but sure is delicious!
- Flour – I prefer using unbleached all purpose flour
- Milk – whole milk works well, but 2% is good too!
- Salt, pepper and crushed red pepper as needed – I prefer sea salt
How to Make Homemade Sausage Gravy
Begin by browning the sausage in a skillet. Break it up into small pieces as it cooks. Make sure it is fully cooked. Don’t drain the meat. It will add extra flavor!

Then, add the flour evenly over the meat and stir it in until fully mixed in.

Add the milk and stir til combined. It will thicken the longer it cooks.

Now is the time to add the optional crushed red pepper and salt and pepper.
It may seem like it will not thicken, but have patience…it will! There is no need to add additional flour. The longer you cook it, the thicker it will become. I promise!

Once thickened to your liking, spoon it over biscuits. Homemade ones are delicious, but you can also use some from a store bought tube.
