Celery Casserole
Celery Casserole is an easy and delicious casserole that the whole family will love. Just brown the meat, mix together and bake.

This is a recipe that has been passed down to me from previous generations and it is one that always gets eaten. So today, I want to share this with you all.
This recipe can be easily doubled if you are feeding a crowd (or a large family like me) or to have the leftovers.
This is one of those meals that the leftovers are so good. They may even be better than when it is fresh out of the oven. So prepare to plan accordingly!
I should make a note here, most locations call this a casserole, but if you are in Minnesota, it may be called a Celery Hot Dish. Whatever you call it, enjoy!
Ingredients for Celery Casserole
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup uncooked rice, long grain
- 2 10.5 oz cans cream of celery soup
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 2 tsp sea salt
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
How to Make Celery Casserole
First, brown the ground beef. Add in the onion while you are browning the meat. Then, drain well.

While browning the meat, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients.
Next, pour into a greased 2 quart casserole dish. Cover the dish and place into preheated oven for 1 hour.

After an hour, remove the cover and stir with a fork.
Bake for another half hour.

Notes
- The recipe calls for traditional long grain rice, however, you can substitute minute rice here. The cooking time will be less, so keep an eye on it.
- You can also place buttered breadcrumbs on top when you fluff it with a fork before placing it back into the oven. It adds a little to it.
- Some people choose to add the ground beef to the casserole without browning it. I prefer to brown it ahead of time, but I believe it can be done. Here is a link to the Testing Table website where they prefer to brown the meat ahead of time.
Don’t forget dessert! Go for some Delicious Apple Crisp to follow up this meal!
